An excellent solution, but Needs 100% steady hand placement January 6, 2009 The Drum silencers are a soft plastic with a rubbery feel, with a near permanent adhesive on the back. The result of placing them on the drums has NOT been lower accuracy with Rock Band 2 drums, but can cause Rock Band 1 drums to miss notes. In my experience, these drums cause a great deal less noise than the original, plastic impact zone.
The front of these pads has a wavy design and the Rock Band logo which, after constant use, will slowly wear away. The rubber very slowly shreds, but is gentle on your sticks. I estimate these pads could last up to a year if you play every day for 2-3 hours (like I do).
Whether you have an apartment or house, want to lower the noise from your fake drum kit, or want your 80$ investment in Rock Band drums last longer, I overwhelmingly recommend these pads.
Pros: Fit near perfectly, dampen sound even better than home brew mods, inexpensive, will save your pads wear and tear. Cons: Does not fit ION kit, will eventually need to be replaced.
5/5 - Must Have Item for Drummers
Waste of money January 6, 2009 Twenty dollars right out the window. They silence the drums somewhat, but you have to hit harder to get the hits to register so that's kind of a wash. Plus, lots of hits, even the hard ones, don't register, so I quickly got frustrated. On medium, songs I can normally get 100% on were nowhere close and I missed tons of white notes and activations of star power. I can't imagine how this would impact hard/expert drummers.
Dampens Sound and DOES NOT LOWER ACCURACY-Stop beating the RIMS!!! January 4, 2009 First of all, I consider myself a casual gamer and usually play Rock Band on medium level. I just bought the drum silencers and I truly believe they work great. The sound of beating on the drums is definitely lessened, as I just played some tunes at 12:30 at night, and nobody complained about the noise. I installed the pads right on top of the drums, without taking off any of the rims (for fear I might break something) and as I can tell, my accuracy has not been compromised at all. Some other reviewers might have had a problem with their accuracy because once you place the pads on, the rims become hidden. They might be beating on the rims sometimes without hearing or realizing it now that they have the silencers on. It might help to become consciously aware of hitting the pads in the middle, because it is impossible to see where the rims are. I am no hardcore Expert-level gamer, but from my experience these pads really do the job and do not take away anything from the game as long as you attack near the center of the pads. I highly recommend them to Rock Band users.
Worked Great January 1, 2009 Have used these for several months and have been very happy with them. They definately dampen the sound when hitting the drum pads and I havent noticed any changed in the accuracy by using them. Since the foam extends to the rim of the drum pad, it has actually helped since you hit the foam instead of the hard rim. The adhesive seems to be holding up well. Overall I am very pleased with these.
Sacrifices too much for some sound deadening. December 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for these pads but after about a week of trying my hardest to like them, adapt to them, justify them, I cannot.
Sound deadening - Yes. Makes Rock Band 1 drums rebound better - Yes. Makes you have to hit the drums so freakin' hard that playing on hard or expert becomes an endurance test of your wrists - Yes.
If you're really trying to learn how to play the drums or are an actual drummer then I highly recommend staying away.
If you have kids that are really just using the drums on easy/medium and aren't playing seriously, then go for it. I imagine this product will be very helpful for parents that are looking for some quiet while their kids pound away on the drums.
